This neighborhood, one of the 5 in New York, is an interesting alternative to extend your visit to the city, also after kicking it we can say that it turned out to be a surprise. So follow our advice: dedicate it (at least) a whole day, and beware, one day is very little, it will only allow you to know the tip of the iceberg of this area full of color and personality.

No, you are not going to meet any long-eared elephant just around the corner. Williamsburg is one of the rarest and most wonderful neighborhoods in New York. Perhaps if we tell you that hipster and orthodox Jews, latest trends and tradition coexist in it, does not it also seem like you? ... well, an explosive mix that leaves no one indifferent.

What to see and do in Williamsburg?

Stroll a lot! The best thing about the neighborhood is its ambient, vintage shops, bookstores, street markets and the many small shops. But of course, Williamsburg is huge ... where to focus the visit? We recommend you arrive at the Bedford Ave (L) subway and stroll along Bedford Avenue, also in the area between 10th St and Metropolitan Ave.

See the orthodox Jewish side of the neighborhood. Before the newly colonized hipster and modernillos, Williamsburg was known to be the "house" of the Hasidic Orthodox Jews. They arrived here during and after World War II, they speak Yiddish and live in the southern zone, along Lee Avenue.

This area, much more conservative and austere than the rest of the neighborhood, is full of shops of kosher products, with signs in Hebrew, men with wide black velvet hats and ringlets pins, women with wigs and wearing black skirts that do not let see the knees, carrying a child (or two or three) in their carts ... Come on, it seems a microcosm away from everything you knew about New York, super recommended.
