The Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) It is located on the artificial island of Chek Lap Kok, connected to Lantau Island and at a distance of about 35 km from the center of Hong Kong. Here are the options you have to get to downtown Hong Kong from the airport:
The line that connects the airport with Hong Kong is called the Airport express. The price depends on your destination (maximum $ 115, about € 13) and the ticket can be purchased at the station's automatic machines, or at the ticket booths. It stops at the following stations:
- Tsing Yi Station ($ 70, € 8), an exchange station
- Kowloon Station ($ 105, € 12), on the mainland
- Hong Kong Station ($ 115, € 13), on Hong Kong Island

Another privilege is that you can use the connections with the MTR subway system within 60 minutes after taking the train. There is also a special ticket for those who return to the airport on the same day, which costs the same as a single ticket (it is called “Same Day Return ticket”).

There are many urban bus lines that stop at the airport. Depending on what your destination is, you will have to choose one or the other. The most interesting are:
- A11: It is probably the most popular, as it reaches the center of Hong Kong. If you have to go somewhere in the Hong Kong Island, this is surely your line. It costs $ 40 (€ 4.6) and runs from 05:35 to 00:30 More information and travel map.
- A21: it makes the whole street Nathan Rd, so if your destination is the district of Kowloon It is probably the one you need. We had the accommodation in Tsim Sha Tsui and it was the one we used. There are other "E" lines (external bus services) somewhat cheaper and the night "N" lines. If you need to take the A11 at night, surely the one that interests you now would be the N11. The same goes for the A21, which would become the N21.
You can pay directly to the driver with the exact fare, or use the Octopus Card when boarding the bus. For “A” lines, tickets can also be purchased at the Customer Service box office next to the stops.

It is a card that can be used in virtually all Hong Kong transports. It costs 15HKD (50 deposit and 100 balance), it is recharged with what you want to put (only cash and minimum 50HKD) and each time you use it the amount of the transfer will be deducted from the balance. The two fundamental benefits are not having to always carry the right money in cash and that the rates are somewhat cheaper (discount of 5% approx). You can get one at the subway / train stations or at the airport at the counter of the Airport Express. It is valid for both the Airport Express train and urban buses.
