Day 5: CANNIGGIONE - THE COSM ESMERALDA: BAJA SARDINIA, PORTO CERVO, PLAYA CAPRICCIOLI, PORTO ROTONDO - OLBIA - CAPO CACCIA- ALGUER AIRPORT

Monday, April 25, 2011

The alarm sounds and as soon as we open our eyes we comment that at night we have heard it rain heavily. We peek through the window and see that the sky is all covered and sparkling. That makes us change the face again, after so many years, it is the first time that we have bad weather on a vacation or getaway and just today, that we will know the area of the Emerald Coast of Sardinia.
After organizing our bags and having breakfast, we set off to Baja Sardinia, where we find a beautiful beach on the Emerald Coast of Sardinia, but not as much as we expected. Perhaps because time does not accompany, but we have not found anything too special here.
There are many buildings dedicated to tourism, restaurants, cafes, bars, but all closed.
Of course, the color of the water is impressive.
But we are not going to lie, it looks like a ghost town at this time.

From here we set off towards Porto Cervo in Emerald coast, waiting for time to give us a little truce.
We go straight to the port and see that as we had read there are large yachts.

Porto Cervo. Emerald coast

The weather does not accompany, so we do not see atmosphere in the area. We walk while time allows us and the moment we drop the first drop, we go towards the town.
We park right in front and discover that the town is an imitation of a fishing village, but full of luxury shops.

It starts to drizzle, so the few people that are there, start to take shelter from the rain, so we can take advantage to walk through the deserted streets and especially the empty shops.

I think I had never seen so many luxury stores together, not even in St. Tropez or Rodeo Drive !! Nor in any of the streets that gather this type of stores in any European capital.
After so much "luxury", we left there with the syndrome of brands and prefer to set off to another town, which in the end is no less luxurious: Porto Rotondo.

But before arriving here, we stopped at the Capriccioli Beach of the Emerald coast.
We park in the parking lot that is less than 100 meters from the beach and as soon as we get out, drops fall again. But this does not make us give up and we approach one of the best beaches we have seen these days.
It is a beach, which is accessed by a small path and is located in a spectacular environment.
We talked about returning a summer weekend, to enjoy this, but we soon realized that this would be impossible. In summer, these beaches are full of people and it would be impossible to enjoy them.
After taking some photos we tried to relax for a while, but it is impossible for us: it starts raining hard again.

This is the time to run to the car !!
We arrived again soaked ... in these 4 days we are "washing" the clothes several times a day.
In 15 minutes we take another town of the Porto Rotondo Emerald Coast of Sardinia and we park in one of the parking lots where we see that there are quite a few cars.
Upon entering the town, it gives us the feeling of being in a small Porto Cervo.
Something like an attempt to "want" but "not be able" ... that is the feeling we have had.
We have encountered a kind of boat / yacht fair and there we have gone. We have taken the opportunity to shelter among the tents and have seen a few yachts from the magazines, which were sold ...
A good option to know this area if you are staying in Alghero and do not want to book a car, is to book this excursion with a guide in Spanish.
After "mixing" in the luxury of Sardinia, we have to go to eat, so we decided that it is best to go a bit ahead and get to Olbia.
We planted in this city in half an hour and after parking, we got into a restaurant / pizzeria that we found near the main street.
And here begins our "culinary disaster" of the day: 2 hours to serve a plate of pasta and a pizza ... and above the horrible food.
This incident, we better leave it here too, so as not to fog this rainy day 🙂

After requesting the change of the account almost shouting, we are going to have a coffee at a nearby bar and already “a little desperate” we go for the car to get to the airport of Alghero: today we have to go home ...
It took us less than 2 hours to arrive, so as we still have a little time for the time we have planned to enter the airport, we decided to approach Capo Caccia before returning the rental car in Sardinia. So we can see from above the Grotta di Nettuno.
It took us about 20 minutes to arrive and we met a lot of people.
So we just got out of the car and made a couple of photos ... and even if it seems like a lie it had stopped raining, until we got out of the car !!!
It rains again, so we decided that it is best to go to the airport and end our Sardinian getaway.

Now we have one hour left to embark and I am finishing this travel diary, with a feeling of sadness that the vacation days end, but at the same time with the feeling that we have been lucky, that despite the bad weather we have had , we have seen everything we had programmed.

We have a good memory of the land of Sardinia, but not too much of the people and services ... in this we have had bad luck.
Maybe it will take some time for us to decide to do the south of the island again ...
But this is what we think now, surely in 2 days ... we are looking forward to returning !!

** Written the day after we arrive home:
In the end our trip to Sardinia It ended with a 3-hour flight departure delay ... but we cannot deny that it has been 4 special days ...
