The trip to Peru for free in 21 days led us to tour one of the most fascinating countries in the world.
We arrived from Barcelona to Lima, where we spent the first day of our trip discovering the city of eternal fog.
From here we begin to travel south, by local transport, making our first stop in the Paracas Reserve, where we not only enjoy one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country, but we also knew the Ballestas Islands.

From here we follow the route, passing through Ica and Huacachina, where we enjoy a brief but intense day before catching a night bus that took us to Nasca, to enjoy an overflight over the most famous lines in the world and one afternoon knowing the Necropolis from Chauchilla, Cerro Blanco and the Cantalloc and Cahuachi Aqueduct.
After this day, we are on our way to Arequipa, a city that has trapped us since we arrived.
From Arequipa we moved to the Colca Valley, where we will spend a couple of days enjoying incredible landscapes and a height that in the end, we did not play any trick.
From Colca we traveled by bus to Puno, where we could enjoy the highest navigable lake in the world: Lake Titicaca.
From Puno we spend another night by bus, this time to Cusco, one of the most beautiful cities we have ever been and the city that served as an entrance to the incredible Sacred Valley and from where, after two days we arrived to Machu Picchu, passing before Ollantaytambo and Pisac, two places that will delight anyone.
After a day knowing the spectacular Machu Picchu, we return to Ollantaytambo, from where, on our way back to Cusco, we visit the Salinas de Maras, Moray and Chinchero that will be the last visits before arriving in Cusco and take a flight that will take us to Iquitos, the city that will be the door of our last stage of the trip, the Amazon, which we will enjoy from an unsurpassed enclave.

    Good morning guys !!

Thank you very much for all the information about Peru, this August we are going there and we are already trying to set up an itinerary.

We have to do without something and we are not sure about what ... I know it is very personal but I always take a lot of your advice hehe and I would do a little help because I do not know what to "remove"

We are doubting between: instead of making the colca canyon in two days, try to do it in one (do you think it is feasible?), Do not go to Lake Titicaca or remove 7-color mountain ... We are very excited to go to the Amazon and it is immovable hehe and we wanted to try to do the Salkantay trek, but everything can't be ...

Almost almost, we will make your itinerary the same!

Again, thank you guys so much!

      Hello Eva,
First of all, thank you very much for reading! The truth is that it depends on the days you need, but in principle, the Colca Valley can be done in one day with this excursion that we recommend in the blog:
      - Excursion to Chivay and Colca Canyon

    Hi,
I am organizing my trip to Peru with 2 friends in November, we will be there for 13 days and our route will be in the opposite direction to yours. We will arrive to Lima in the early morning and spend a single night there, on the 2nd day at night we will fly to Iquitos, in the morning we will begin our tour of the Amazon for 3 days and 2 nights. The day we return from the jungle we will take a flight to Cuzco, where we will stay 4 days. Our intention is to organize the days based on excursions, 1 day Machu Picchu, another Sacred Valley and Maras Moray (which also includes the occasional visit), another Rainbow Mountain and the other we want to leave to know the town of Cuzco and / or Take the tour of Cuzco and its 4 ruins, as we have been told that the town can be visited every day around the excursions.
From Cuzco we will travel to Puno by night VIP bus, we have booked a very cheap hotel there just for being able to rest for a couple of hours when we arrive, take a shower, have breakfast and leave our luggage for that same morning to take the excursion to Lake Titicaca and visit the islands from Uros and Taquile. That same night we will take another night VIP bus to travel to Arequipa. We will arrive very early in the morning to Arequipa and we will stay until the next day at night that we will catch a flight to Lima. The day of arrival in Arequipa we plan to make the 1-day excursion to the Colca Canyon and the next day to visit the town until the time of catching the flight, but we are afraid of being too dead already ...
The last full day in Peru we are thinking of taking advantage of it by taking a full-day excursion from Lima to Paracas, also visiting Ballestas and Huacachina Islands. Our return flight leaves the next day at noon.
We know that it is very tight and that we will need vacation vacations to recover, but we want to make the most of it. Do you see it very crazy ??
We have some doubts for which we needed your help. In principle we will travel with large suitcases and not with backpacks, we will carry a medium backpack for the days in the jungle, but the rest of the trip we will carry a suitcase, all the hotels we reserve have luggage storage and 24-hour reception, but I would like to know if in airports and bus stations in Cruz del Sur there are slogans in which the bags fit, in case we needed them at some time.
With regard to currency exchange, do we carry euros and exchange there for soles or is it better to take dollars to exchange them for soles?
In November do you know what the weather is like? In each place I read it puts a different thing ...

Thank you very much for all the info and congratulations for the blog and for how you do it, you are great!

      Hello Sandra,
The truth is that the itinerary is very tight, but it is feasible to do so, provided you do organized excursions to avoid public transport in some areas where it can be problematic by schedules.
We leave you the Civitatis website, which is what we recommend in the blog, where you can find many tours / excursions to Peru of which you comment.
Regarding luggage, do not worry, in all stations of Cruz del Sur they have service to store them.
And with respect to the climate, being a country with very different areas, it depends on the area. We leave you the post Tips for traveling to Peru in which we talk about this topic.

Hello! ... I know that it is a subject that is a function of many things but, in general, your plan seems a bit tight. In November there is usually a brief preview of rains (I do not remember what they call it) but it is normal that It doesn't rain in the mountains. The best time to travel to Peru is from April to June: everything is green, it could drizzle (which beautifies everything) and there is not so much tourism.
Lima is, perhaps, one of the five most interesting gastronomic destinations in the world. They should keep that in mind. It is delusional.
Taquiole Island is the great hidden gem of Peru. If you can, stay to sleep. You will be accommodated in one of the rooms of one of the Taquileños' houses: a very beautiful experience.

There I rest 2 days and we cross the sacred valley and the third I go by train to Aguas Calientes to do Machu Picchu on the day. Do you recommend going to Ollantaymbo by day? Well, I arrive at night. Or I go straight to Chinchero and Cusco? Then I go to Puno and visit the lake. Thank you!!!! miracles

Hello chely, I am from Lima, Peru and the places that you have visited, if you can take a walk with children but, without being under 6 years old, I will remind you of other places that do not have to do trekkinn, vanessa and roger have made routes to be able to know more thoroughly , although it is true it is better known than with a travel agency; but as a father you should know what your children are like if they can walk or not, I tell you with my 5 year old daughter we went to the Colca Canyon Arequipa, 3 days of trekkinn 28 km and the scenery was spectacular the villages and the canyon and Quiet road was the one that as I-I advanced and returned because the road is phenomenal, I would tell you that I walk more, but if you see that your daughter can not hire services from agencies that give full service, I hope you can visit Peru many tourist places like pastoruri, huaraz, chavin de huantar and other tourist areas, greetings I hope I have helped

I am also looking to go to Peru this year, and I am also interested in the budget. But I have a doubt, in these 100 euros per person and day do you include travel (international, internal flights, etc.) or do they go separately? It is to have an idea as real as possible of what it can cost us.

      Hi Mercè,
Thank you so much for reading! We are very sorry, but we never give advice on vaccination, since we believe that this topic is very important and the only person indicated to be able to give this type of advice is a doctor. We recommend you go to a vaccination center to consult it, since the recommended vaccines depend a lot on your medical history, the time you travel, the type of trip and even the days you spend in each of the places.
We are sorry not to give you more information, but in this case, we do not believe that we are the right ones 😉

Hi Mariona, it is a good decision to extend your trip in the department of Cusco since the two most visited places are a mountain of colors that normally takes you 1 whole day and Machupicchu you can do it in one day as long as you do it by train, if you want trekking there is the 2-day Inca trail service the first day you travel from the city of Cusco to km 104, then take a walk to the citadel of Machupicchu and rest in the town of hot waters so that the next day you visit the citadel of Machupicchu and ending the tours return by train to Cusco. Or another tour to the Manu National Park that is very nice to do as a family.

    - The flight back from Cusco to Lima that we were most interested in departs at 5.30 in the morning, so we will have to leave the hotel in Cusco very soon and I don't know if there are taxis at that time and if it is safe to take them, now that security is what scares me the most.

    - When hiring the excursions, it is better to take them hired from Spain? Have I looked at several pages and I don't know how well it is better or if it is also feasible

Regarding transfers, if you want to go safer, one of the options is to book a private transfer like the ones we advise on the Civitatis blog //www.civitatis.com/es/cusco/traslados?aid=1051
About excursions, you can also do it through themselves or once you are at the destination, look directly at an agency there.

I travel to Peru in a few days and as it gets closer we get thousands of doubts. We have booked the first week in the area of Cuzco and Sacred Valley. Then we will have two weeks left to visit Lake Titicaca and go up to Lima. We will end the trip going to Iquitos surely… My question is: is it better to book in advance or can we do it there on the go? We are afraid that there is a lot of tourism but we also do not want to close the trip from here in case we want to change the option.

    Very good couple.
I've been organizing my three weeks in Peru for months (next November) and your publication has guided me to organize in an amazing way: THANK YOU!

How beautiful it is to organize a new trip and discover that you have days left to reach all the beauties it has.

In relation to that is my question:

    - We want to end up visiting: Iquitos (3 nights)> Huaraz (2 nights) and the doubt is in being the last night in Lima (the flight leaves the next day at 19:30 in the afternoon) or as there is margin, do it in Huaraz and take another night there and return tomorrow of the same day of the flight to Lima.

I see that you did not go, is it because you discarded it? Maybe leave it for another future trip? Is it worth it to stay 2-3 nights in Huaraz, rather than "allocate it" more loosely elsewhere and thus also have more rest?

I await your response ([email protected])

Thank you so much for explaining your experiences in this way!

        Hello Sergio,
First of all, thank you very much for reading us and for your words!
Regarding what you tell us, Huraz discarded it due to lack of time, but if you have a couple of days, we think it's a great option.
On the flight, we always try to return for the international flight a day before, to have a reasonable time frame if something happens, although in some cases we hurry to the fullest.
In this case, it depends a lot on those who "want to risk" 😉

Hi guys, I would like to thank you for the blog, I love it. My boy and I are also travelers, with much less experience, but just as excited about traveling for free, looking for life and making the routes to your liking. We wanted to congratulate you for the way you tell us your experiences and for the large amount of information you provide, our route through Peru will be Lima-Iquitos-Amazonas-Lima-Paracas-Arequipa-Cusco, since we also want to go to Machu Pichu the Mountain of 7 colors, most of the days we do them in Cusco so that the body acclimates to the height, in addition, we only have 15 days of travel ... If you see something that we are leaving behind and consider that it is impressible please tell us. Well, I just wanted to thank you. I subscribe! Greetings!

      Hello Pilar,
On the issue of luggage, in principle, if you are not going to do any trekking, there is no problem in carrying a suitcase, even in the Amazon area, if you go to a lodge like ours where the transfer is by boat.
Regarding the change, we always recommend taking out the cashier directly, checking before the commission with your bank, since if it is not much, it is worth it, having the change of the day.
In case you change, in this same guide you have the places where we change, the first in Lima. On the frequency, it depends on what you change and what you spend 😉

    Good afternoon!!

First of all, thank you very much for all the great help you have in the blog! It has helped me many to organize several trips in recent years 🙂

Last summer we did the west coast and national parks and we loved it !! It was our first trip of so many days and we couldn't choose better. For this year we have some doubts and that is why I am writing to you… surely we decide for South America and the big question is: Peru? Chile? Argentina? Combine a couple of them? I know you have not been to Argentina but I would like to know if you see viable in about 20-22 days, which will be what we have, see the main thing of Peru and Chile for example or think that it is more worthwhile to focus on one of them . If so, which of the two do you consider more "complete"?

    Thanks in advance!!

      Hello Silvia,
The truth is that it is a difficult decision. Argentina we do not know, so we could not say with knowledge, but having the days you have, we would definitely opt for Peru, since with that time you can discover the most "tourist" of the country, in addition to including if you are interested The Amazon area.

    Good night!
First of all, congratulate you on the blog, it is serving as a reference to design our trip to Peru. We will be 15 days and we do not want to give up the visit to the Amazon. Of the main points to visit, we have decided to give up Nazca, any advice? We do not know if it is the best decision, but among all destinations, we have had to decide. We have also read that to go to the jungle it would take more days, but of course ... we saw it after buying the planes.
Another question that arises is to buy the Machu Picchu passes, we have entered the web and it does not let us select, maybe it is because 2018 is not yet enabled to buy?
We will visit Peru in February, how is this date?

    Thank you!

      Hello Laura,
First of all, thank you very much for reading and for your words.
About what you tell us about going to the Amazon area, you don't give us exactly the days you will be. We recommend a minimum of 4-5 days, since between arrival, transfer and after the stay, at least those days are necessary.
Although if you go to Puerto Maldonado from Cuzco, probably with less it can be done.
Regarding eliminating Nazca, this depends a lot on your tastes. To us as an experience, the truth is that it is incredible, despite the lightheadedness of the plane, but in this case we believe that the choice depends a lot on the days you have to "eliminate" to include Amazon.
About the entrance to Machu Picchu, we have tried and do not let the reservation. Sales may open a couple of months before, anyway, write to the Tourist Office, or by RRSS, to see if they give you a clear answer about this.
And on the subject of the best time, Peru is very large, so in each area it is better to travel at one time or another, so we could almost say that any time is good to travel to Peru.
Of course, except February if you want to do the Inca Trail, since it is closed !!
      regards

If you put yourself on top of the question mark in each rate you can see the explanation of each one of them. What we could not tell you exactly, is the difference between "occasion" and "insurmountable" since the description is the same.
If you choose them, in the next step you will have to choose a seat, so you will see in what position you give them according to what rate you have chosen. Being before paying, you can modify if it does not just square.

Day 4 Machupichu with night in Cusco
Day 5 Mountain 7 colors. Night bus to Puno with arrival at 5 am and as I read in your blog the tours begin at 7 so we would have time to visit the lake and then we would appreciate if it gives more time as you have told me. We cogeria another night bus that same day 22:00 to Arequipa with arrival at 4 am on day 6. Here we already cogeria accommodation.

        Hello Miriam,
The area of the Mountain 7 colors we did not. What we see is that although it is feasible to do it in times, it is a bit rushed, since you will spend two nights by bus, although afterwards, being able to rest in Arequipa, it is totally feasible.
If you take the speedboat tour to visit Lake Titicaca, in the afternoon, before going to catch the bus, you would have time to go by taxi to Sillustani.

These are all the different names with which you have been leaving comments in all the articles of this practical guide advertising a travel agency, with FALSE comments since they are not publicity of the company, but they are comments that make believe they are of readers and They recommend the agency.
As professionals we have to tell you that this leaves much to be desired of your company. In this case, if you had commented on one of the threads, advertising, we would have left it, moreover, we would have thanked you very much, since it is to provide information.
In this case, in addition to SPAM, it is LIE, since you have tried to leave comments from supposed clients when they do not exist and come from the same company.
We have eliminated the rest of the comments but we wanted to leave one of them, of course deleting the data of the company, so that you understand the reason why we acted like this.

Take an all-inclusive day trip from Cuzco to the impressive ruins of Machu Picchu. Visit the famous Inca ruins and get to know the city, its history and the inhabitants who once lived there. Ideal for those who visit the city for the first time, families (without strenuous walks) and travelers who go alone, this experience is a must when visiting Peru.

We always recommend to start looking for flights and accommodation as soon as possible, especially if you travel with closed dates since in 90% of cases, the price trend is to rise.
The flights, at least in our case, we started looking at them 8-9 months in advance.
Regarding the subject of the car, we are sorry we cannot help you since we do not know of any company that supports the collection in Peru and the return in Bolivia. regards

    Hi Vane / Roger

Once again congratulate you for the vlog and in particular for your newspaper in Peru, it is serving us VERY MUCH! Only one question that I have not been able to find: currency exchange. We fly from Barcelona-Lima and directly, from there, to Cusco. Do you recommend taking us dollars and changing them in Cusco? There are official offices, or at the airport ...

    Thank you very much again!

      Hello alba,
We always recommend taking out directly from the ATM, since they give you the change of the day and only charge you the commission you have "agreed" with your bank, which in general does not exceed 10 euros per operation.
In case you want to change, on the first day of this guide //www.viajeroscallejeros.com/que-ver-en-lima-en-un-dia/ we explain our experience in Lima and in this one in Cuzco // www .viajeroscallejeros.com / cuzco-in-a-day / 😉

Hello, we are going to travel to Peru in July and we want to make a trip very similar to yours. The doubts that arise are:

    - Did you make all the trips by bus except Cuzco-Iquito? Have you all booked them from Spain?
    - At what points did you use a guide?
    - Was the excursion to Machu Picchu guided or arranged with any group?

Thank you very much and congratulations on this piece of blog!

P.S. Surely when we start preparing the trip we will have more doubts 😛

      Hi Isa,
      - All bus routes are booked from Spain, to secure seats.
      - Guide only used in the Colca Valley, which we hired a tour of the area and then in the Amazon area, which with the accommodation we had included daily departures.
      - Machu Picchu we visit for free from Aguascalientes.
We keep in touch for anything we can help you with.

We booked a visit to Machu Picchu and the seven-colored mountain trail a month in advance and everything went as we talked.
They waited for us at the airport and transferred us to our hotel.
The beautiful Cusco city tour! and Machu Picchu needless to say, all fantastic.
We were very surprised by the seven-color mountain tour, something new and recommended.

Hello! A couple of days ago we returned from Peru. I wanted to thank you for the work you took in writing your entire trip in such detail. We took your itinerary as a base (fewer places since we left 13 days) and all your information was very useful. They really made it much easier! Thank you!. We loved the idea of taking the van from Huerto to walk the ruins of Tambomachay. We also take the vans to go to Pisac and from there to Urubamba and Ollanta. In the Colca Valley, we choose to sleep in the Yanque village, less touristy and take a 3-hour walk to the Uyo Uyo ruins. Highly recommended. We hire this in Arequipa. Pisac had a part of the ruins closed by the rains, so we did not make the way down like you did (that day we drizzled a little and it seemed dangerous). But if we climb the mountain Huayna Picchu and we walked to the door of the sun in Machu Picchu. Very tiring, but slowly it is done well. And it's a huge satisfaction when you get up. And the return of Ollantaytambo to Cusco, passing through Moras, Maray and Chinchero we also made it by taxi (in local transport it is very complicated) and we left 130 soles (the car). To have the most updated data! Obviously, as in all Peru you have to bargain the price. But we pay that.
Thanks again for your work ... For us it was very useful. I will consider them for future trips!

      Good morning Maria,
A few years have passed since the trip to Peru, but more or less the budget, including international flights, the Amazon area, hotels, transportation, tickets ... etc was $ 100 per person per day.
Chile is somewhat more expensive, especially for hotels in the area of Torres del Paine and Easter Island, in addition to the flights are usually expensive, so if you want to make a trip exactly like ours, the budget was about $ 130 per person per day.
Both budgets can be lowered (or raised) a lot if you change the accommodations or find a good flight offer.

    Hi:

I congratulate you very much for your great work in sharing so much information about your trips, they are of great help and clarification.

The idea of traveling to Peru has been around for a while to experience an experience that has been suggested to us.

The experience has to do with a plant called ayahuasca and that is native to Peru, mainly in the vicinity of the Amazon.

Its elaboration is carried out by a shaman as they were there.

The doubt or question is whether during your trip to Peru you have been able to experience, inform yourself or obtain some kind of reliable information about it.

A greeting and thanks in advance

We recommend you check the train schedules at Perurail //www.perurail.com/es/ and Incarail //incarail.com/index so you can see exactly the schedules.
The exit of Machu Picchu must be done in time, since you have to square the bus schedule to Aguascalientes, in addition to the arrival at the station, if you have to pick up backpacks at the accommodation ... etc

When carrying a closed itinerary, since only traveling 21 days we wanted to see yes or yes what we had planned, we took everything hired from here.
That was a way of "gaining time" in addition to making sure that, for example, the entrance to Machu Picchu and train transportation, was not going to be complete for just the days we wanted to do it.

We hired this agency from Mexico and for me they were of the best attention I have had, every detail was pending, they passed us to the airport and also left us back, during the TOUR we felt at home, we were super spoiled. We hired the tour of the mountain of the seven colors in 2 DAYS, they treated us like kings, the delicious food and at night it was very cold until a bottle of hot water filled us to put it on our feet and we did not go cold during the Night, our guide EDWIN was on the lookout for us at all times and never neglected us.

I highly recommend it, do not stop doing this mountain tour in 2 days since the landscapes are INCREDIBLE I loved the experience and with this better tour…. My whole group and I were delighted ...

CONGRATULATIONS AND I HOPE TO BE ABLE TO SEE THEM ANOTHER DAY!

In Peru, did you move with your ID or passport? It is clear that we will carry the passport but for many tours and tickets (for example the one of MP) they ask us for the DNI

For the subject of vaccination we recommend that you go to the nearest International Vaccination Center, since they are the experts and according to your itinerary, medical history or outbreaks at the time of the trip, the vaccines can vary and it is they who can best guide.
On the DNI or passport, it is best that you always carry the passport, since this is the document that, before anything, they will ask for. regards

Sacred Valley and Ollantaytambo US $ 55
I also want to go to the mountain arcories US $ 80

          Hello Ana:
I don't know if you already caught the tours or not. If it helps you I also go to Peru in October - November and of the tours you mention I have caught the one in Sacred Valley - Ollantaytambo which includes:

Pick up and return to the hotel
          Mobility through different villages
          Guide
          Buffet lunch

          PRICE: $ 32.00 per person (€ 28 approx.)
          TOTAL: $ 64.00 taxes included, 2 people.

We contacted a tourism agency in Peru that some Peruvian friends recommended me. (Colonial Tours) I don't know if you will decide whether or not to contact this agency or another, but the price can serve you as an orientation.
We have the online caught tours of: Colca Valley 3D / 2n 60 $ each (does not include hotel), Isla Uros / Taquile 25 $ each one of Machu Picchu, we do it on our own, it almost leaves us both € 300 and at an agency you will be asked € 270 PER person.
We had long thought to travel to Peru and, the truth, we have received many tips to go, it is not a precisely cheap trip and that is why I think that with a little effort and if we help each other we can make the trip a little easier Travel to such a beautiful country!

In the same city you can find them cheaper, half or even a third. Now I am Peruvian and I know that here they first look at your face before putting the price. But there you can negotiate, you can also see live what types of buses they will use. I recommend the little ones, in the big people people delay and delay the group.

Did you check your bag or carry backpacks? Did you find any luggage restriction somewhere, weighed / measured? Our idea is to go with a backpack and not bill it, although being August and winter there, it is a bit complicated to wear little clothes. What do you advise us? Thank you

      Hello Mayra!
We carry a large backpack, 60l and a small one, which we used when we were in the Sacred Valley for 3 days and left the large one in Cuzco. We were only weighed, since we invoiced it. We understand that if you carry it as carry-on luggage, you will have to comply with the standard measures of each airline. As you say, if you go enough days and by time, carrying everything in a small backpack is complicated, it may be better to carry a slightly larger one and check it out. Regards!

I mean 50 l backpack. or small cabin-type suitcase, the large suitcases I assume will make you leave them down….

I would like to know if it is easy to schedule for the overflight of the Nazca lines or if you have to make a reservation with time, the value you give here is 70 euros in 2014, does anyone know how this is this 2016 ??? Also if you easily get accommodation or you also have to ensure something. Thank you for the information.

      Good morning Ana,
It is best to book with time, so you ensure the day and also the time of the flight. Besides, if you have a closed itinerary those 15 days, it is not difficult to determine the day you will fly. Regarding the price, it is best to check it directly on the company's website. We did it with AlasPeruanas //www.alasperuanas.com/es/
On the subject of accommodation, in principle you will not have problems in booking it during the trip, but if you have the itinerary closed, we would choose to book it from home and thus you will not waste time looking for accommodation at the destination.
On the closest airport to Paracas is Pisco, but it does not have regular flights, so the traditional way to get to Paracas is by land, by bus with a journey of 3h 30 '(much better than a flight, which would surely take much more between flight and paperwork). regards

    Hello street travelers!

As I mentioned a few days ago, last year we were in Iceland on a spectacular trip, thanks to your blog. The information and the level of detail you give of your trips is priceless. And that is why, within a month we will go to Peru, largely following your itinerary.

I wanted to ask you if you took the anti-malaria pill (Malarone), and if so, know what side effects it can have. We still have to go to International Vaccination to see what they tell us, but to know your experience, since it has surprised me that you didn't comment anything about it.

    Thank you

      Hello guys!
First of all, thank you very much for those words. We know that we always say the same thing, but we can't stop commenting on how much we like to read these comments and what they encourage us to keep writing.
On the Malarone we do take it to go to the Iquitos area, if it had not been necessary. The reason for not commenting on it or not making special mention is that we believe that the issue of vaccination is serious enough so that a blog is not the main source of information, since in many cases vaccines depend on the time, the status of the person and even of the outbreaks in the destination at that time 😉
About the side effects we meet people who have felt nauseous and dizzy and even fever, even having to leave them. In our case, having taken them several times, we have to say that we have never had any side effects.
      Regards!!

Peru is a country of great tourist attractions with a lively and rich native culture. From the Inca Trail that leads to Machu Picchu, from the Paracas deserts, the enigmatic Nazca Lines, the highest navigable lake in the world in Puno, the Colca canyon in Arequipa to Lima where you will find the best of Peruvian cuisine . Greetings from Cusco, Peru.

Hello guys! Congratulations on your blog!

I really want to go to Peru but I can't find anyone who can on the dates I could do it, so I'm thinking of doing it for free and alone. Do you know what security is like in Peru in general for a single girl? I was in Brazil last year with my partner and the truth is that many areas of Rio seemed quite unsafe for a single woman. I would like to know if you have any idea how it is in Peru.

    Thank you!

      Good morning Teresa,
On the contrary, you will have no problem traveling alone in Peru. While there are certain areas of Lima that say it is better not to visit, especially at night, it is like everything, with common sense sure you have no problem.
The rest, at least we, we did not find a sense of insecurity in any of the areas we were. Regards!

    Hello guys,

Thank you very much for your blog is helping me (and how) to organize a trip on my own. All in all, I was wondering, if you could help me with a question that I have, that surely it is in the blog but that there is no way that I find where:

With whom did you hire the two-day excursion to the Colca Valley (and Mirador del Cóndor)? I would love to do it too.

And, also, I would like to know if local agencies are easy to find when you get to the sites. I ask you because, for example, in Vietnam it was super easy to find the "streets" where almost all were to be able to hire excursions.

    Thank you!!!!!

Regarding the agencies, do not worry, you will find in all the most tourist places and not a few 😉 if you want to hire tours or excursions directly there.

Friends, Peru is a very beautiful country, if you liked it then Chile will love it. It was chosen the best outdoor destination in America and has more visitors than Peru, the bad is very long and extensive but the only landscape that you will not find will be the rainforest. You can be skiing in the morning and lying on the beach in the afternoon, deserts, millenary ice, inhospitable landscapes. Polite and friendly people. Paradise is in Chile.

If it is true that throughout the trip we did not meet anyone who made this with a rental car, so we believe that in Peru it is perhaps better to opt for local transport. Regards!

What to do the car tour of clear power that can be done, but it would not complicate me so much, there are good options to do it by bus comfort and tranquility and safety. An option Cruz del Sur (www.w.cruzdelsur.com), greetings and enjoy Peru and its diversity

Good Morning! We do not publish the complete budget of the trips, since we believe that being the flight and the hotels two of the points that take more budget, publishing a total budget, would not be too useful. What we do is publish the price of transport, meals, tickets ... etc, on each day of the travel diary, in the detail of the activity.
In this case and counting the price we pay, all inclusive, was about 100 euros per person / day.

      Hi,
I don't have the budget separately from everything, but I can explain more or less what it cost us.

The flight we pay from Madrid-Lima for € 370 round trip
We did not pay more than 30 soles per person.
Transportation depends on the distances but the most expensive coach we paid was 70soles
The flight we took from Puerto Maldonado to Lima was $ 90
Meals no more than 25 soles per person.
And then the excursions and the fees paid on the excursions (that depends on what each one wants to see).
      We went to
-isles crossbows and reserve in paracas.
-sandboard and Buggy in huacahina. (We wanted to go to the regional museum of Ica but it was closed for renovations)
      - The plane ride on the Nazca lines $ 70
      - Island of Uros and Taquile on Lake Tiki Talka in Puno
      - In Cusco we bought the tourist newsletter of 130 soler but you can see the entire sacred valley.
      - machupichhu
And finally we went to the jungle of Puerto Maldonado to do a two day and one night excursion in the middle of the jungle.
      Our route was:
      Lima-paracas-Ica-huacachina-nazca-Arequipa-puno-Cuzco-Puerto Maldonado-Lima (I think I don't forget anything?)

I would not know how much we spent exactly on all meals, transportation, accommodation in total for everything.

But the trip came to each € 1500 with the flight included for a month. We went from November 28, 2015 to December 28.
It does not reach € 40 person / day discounting the price of the flight (but I already tell you that it depends on how you want to travel each one or the budget that one has to make a trip.

I hope that I have helped you in something

      Greetings

I traveled from Buenos Aires to the city of Arequipa, it always called my attention to what they call "White City". It has an incredible volcano - for a moment it made me think of Mount Fuji when I left for Japan. I planned to continue my tour of the Peruvian country buying plane tickets but I discovered that there were several land transport companies that took you anywhere in the country for little money. My next stopover was in Lima and luckily I came across service that I highly recommend to compare prices. From Lima I went all over the circuit of the northern beaches, the best ones, especially the one in Máncora with which I was fascinated.

      Hello Luisa,
If you must pay in dollars, we believe that it is best to talk to your bank to see what type of change they make to you and what the commission is and take it from here. For the money you need in the country, we always advise you to take the cash and exchange there at the airport just afterwards and then at a bank or if you do not want to carry the cash, get money directly at a bank with a credit card. Of course, it is best to check with your bank before what type of fees apply, and then do not take any fright. Regards!

I think I am already determined that my trip this year is to Peru, in the month of May. Surely I dropped on some other occasion to answer any questions when planning the route, but right now what worries me is the weather. What kind of clothes would you recommend to wear? In principle my idea does not include going to the jungle, I prefer the classic circuit in the south and add something from the north.

      Hi carmen,
At that time it is best to go on an "onion" plan, but in principle you do not need to wear warm clothes. Although in Peru the weather changes according to the area we are in, if you go to the Colca area, when you are more than 4000 meters away, you will need some more shelter than in Paracas.
If you are not going to the Iquitos area, in principle you would not need summer clothes, for a "traditional circuit".

      Good morning Lara!
You will not have any problem. We explain how we did it in this post //www.viajeroscallejeros.com/visitas-cerca-de-cuzco-tambomachay-pukapukara-qenqo-cristo-blanco-sacsayhuaman/.
It is best to arrive by bus to the highest point (Tambomachay) and from there go down on foot. On the road you will see the signaling, but it is worth taking for example the CityMaps2Go application that is a free offline GPS to be able to confirm that you are going in the right direction.
In Pisac //www.viajeroscallejeros.com/pisac-ollantaytambo-desde-cuzco/ the best option is to take a taxi to the ruins, there is no public transport, and once visited go down to Pisac town by the "back" of the ruins. In Pisac there is no signaling, but there is no other way than that, and in the background you will always be seeing the town, so there is no loss. If we can help you with any other thing, here we are. Regards!

But we would recommend that rather than guide you through forums or comments, go to your nearest tropical medicine center and talk to the doctor. In principle you should not be afraid, the "only" thing that can bite you are mosquitoes, but if you carry a strong repellent, you will not have a bigger problem than this. We interpret that you will be in some type of accommodation that we were. They put fabrics on the windows and mosquito nets, so in the rooms there is no problem and when you do a jungle excursion you always go with a guide who is attentive to everything so that there is no problem. regards

Having 18-19 days maybe you can skip the part of the Amazon, which is the one that will take you "more time", for the issue of transfers and dedicate the time you have to other areas.
We wrote a post with a brief review of all the hotels we stayed in, you can find it a little above the comments 😉 //www.viajeroscallejeros.com/hoteles-en-peru/
Regarding the price of the trip we count about 100 euros per day / person, but it counts that we include Amazonas, where the price of the flight and the stay is not "especially" economical, so if you do not do it, the budget will be much more low.

In Iquitos if you want to stay in the heart of the Amazon, apart from that there are not many options, the ones that are there are expensive. Regards!! Hello!
I love your blog! My partner and I go to Peru by the end of September for 15 days. We have prepared a free itinerary that I would like to comment to ask for your opinion and ask you some questions.

    The itinerary is as follows:
Day 1: Flight Spain to Lima (we arrive at night)
    Day 2: Lima
Day 3: Lima-Paracas (Nature Reserve, Ballestas Islands) -Nazca
Day 4: Nazca-Night by bus to Arequipa
    Day 5: Arequipa
Day 6: Arequipa - Colca Excursion - Chivay
Day 7: Condor Viewpoint - Puno
    Day 8: Puno (Sillustani)
Day 9: Puno (Uros / Taquile / Lake Titicaca)
Day 10: Puno - Cuzco (tourist bus route)
    Day 11: Cuzco
Day 12: Cuzco - Sacred Valley Incas - Aguas Calientes
Day 13: Machu Picchu - Cuzco
Day 14: Flight Cuzco - Lima
Day 15: Return flight to Spain

    Regarding the itinerary, several doubts:
    1. Will it be possible on day 3 to see the National Reserve, the Ballestas Islands, the Oasis of Huacachina and sleep in Nazca?
    2. From Arequipa to Chivay and Puno (days 6 and 7) is it easy to do it for free? I see that you did this in two days but you returned to Arequipa and hired the two-day excursion. Is it better that we do it like you or can we sleep the second day already in Puno?

    Another doubt:
    1. As I read in other blog comments, it is better to buy the flight from Cuzco to Lima when we arrive in Lima. There will be no availability problems so shortly in advance?

I await your response and suggestions.

    Many thanks!!!

From Lima to Paracas, if you go by bus, at least with Cruz del Sur you have one that leaves at 3:30 in the morning (you must confirm the schedules of those dates to verify it), which takes about 3 and a half hours to reach Paracas You would get there around 7 in the morning and the Ballestas tours start between 7: 30-8: 00 (we don't know if there are agencies that do tours later), so I would give you time to do this in the morning and After about 11 o'clock make the Paracas reservation with a car / driver (in the blog you can see that we did it with Ricardo).
From Paracas to Ica you should see if there is a combination with a bus company in the afternoon and if there is one, you could go to Huacachina to watch the sunset and catch a night bus to Nazca.
Of course, it seems like a super tight route, in which you have to fit all the pieces and in which you will go to every "rag". If you can add another day or remove any of the visits, to fit everything better 😉

The Colca Valley we did it with an agency because we didn't find it easy to do it for free in those 2 days. This was the easiest way and that fit us in the days we had. We do not return to Arequipa, we leave Arequipa, we pass through the Colca Valley and from Chivay we went to Puno.

The issue of flights we think is very personal, in our case and traveling as we were traveling in Peru with closed dates we did not want to take risks, so we prefer to take the tickets booked from here. If you look at them with time you can find very cheap prices.

We keep in touch for what you need. Regards!

        Hello again,

We continue with the preparation of the trip and I have another question. You visited in Puno, Lake Titicaca / Uros / Taquile and Sallustani in one day. We have planned it in two, but in return, we miss knowing the surroundings of Cusco (Tambomachay, Pakapukara, etc ...), so we are thinking of removing one night in Puno and adding another one in Cusco to know these sites What do you think ?

By the way, do you remember the price Ricardo gave you to visit the Paracas National Reserve?

        Thank you!

        Regards,

          Hello Martina,
The surroundings of Cuzco is one of the most important and beautiful visits of Peru, we would not let it pass if you have the option of joining the two days of Puno in one.
If you do the Uros and Taquile tour by speedboat, in the afternoon you have time to go to Sillustani by taxi. It is more expensive, but you earn a lot of time.
We would not think about it, that area of Cuzco is impressive.
Ricardo charged us 90 soles, the price for two people.
          Regards!

      Hello Laura,
Counting that traveling in the high season, it is best to book them in advance, so you make sure you can access. We tried it through the official website, but it gave us problems when we wanted to pay with Visa from a bank outside Peru. We tried with several debit and credit and it was impossible, so in the end we opted to take them out through an agency, we believe that he charged us about 10 euros per person for the procedure. If you see that you can not through the official website, let us know and if you want we pass you the contact of the agency with which we process it. Regards!!

I take note of the recommended places so we go. Regarding Ollantaytambo we have 1 day off there, what do you recommend us to do? I want to do jungle and beach, where do you recommend me? Regarding the theme of beaches we cannot advise you too much since we do not focus the trip on that plan and as a jungle, we were in Iquitos and we highly recommend it //www.viajeroscallejeros.com/el-amazonas-desde-iquitos

Flights inside the country is better to buy it insitu. The flight pages are: //www.lan.com.pe //www.starperu.com, taca.
Do not make reservations by heading or any other European page. I am Peruvian I live in Spain and whenever I go to my country I do it directly entering the pages of Peru. example: a flight in rumbo.es lima cusco lima left me about 350 euros. in Peru with lan, it costs me 130 dollars (120 euros) I / V.
If you have a European credit card you will not be allowed to make flight reservations on the pages of //www.lan.com.pe. It seems that it is a kind of firewall that detects the purchase with a different IP to the local and does not allow progress in the purchase. a pointless topic of LAN, but that's how things work with your WEB:
PS: For foreigners in lan there is a price surcharge. You can make flights at cheaper prices in starperu. That is the only price for both locals and foreigners.

Anyone who needs any advice, in visiting my country, I will gladly answer you-

      Dear Jorge,
I am reading the advice you give, and I see them very interesting. My wife and I want to spend about 12 days in Peru, especially visiting Cuzco, and everything you can. We are in doubt of doing it as an agency package or assembling it on our own. We have seen plane prices from Madrid and Lima-Cuzco and they go up to about 1500 euros per person. For that reason we are seeing that the agency that offers packages for 2600 euros is not so bad. How do you see this?
Then I have a second question: almost all the hotels we see by booking and those of the agencies are located in Miraflores: does the historic center of Lima have no interesting hotels?
I am a history teacher and I am looking forward to getting to know Peru, in order to better understand the history of Spain. Now that my wife wants it too, we would like to do it this coming July.
      Thank you,
      July

        July,
throughout Lima there are many hotels, for all tastes and prices.
There are also them in the center of Lima, some small and very cheap, but for being Miraflores the place that best suits travelers (places to visit but especially for security at any time of day / night) is that the agencies They have on their booking lists.
July is a month where many offers are presented because it is the month of the national holiday and in which people receive extra money, but it is also high season for travelers.
If you have any local help you can set up your own travel itinerary.

I want to add something for those who do not have so much time to stay and have to move by plane. I was in January and had to fly from Lima to Cusco to tour the Sacred Valley.

I discovered that in several airlines the price of tickets is cheaper if purchased in Peru itself. Passage Lima-Cusco-Lima was about 350 dollars.

When buying it in Peru (from the Peruvian Airlines website) the price was exactly half.

    I hope it serves someone.

I have already been to Peru 2 times and I will not get tired of returning. I need Iquitos, the Colca Valley, Arequipa. In the Nasca line plane I was indisposed for a little while but then everything was fine, I was fascinated, the Ballestas Islands its crystal clear waters, the sea lions, penguins and birds I loved, the ride in the totora of Lake Titicaca, Pisac its markets, Up to Machupichu and to impregnate you of all the mysticism that exists in that place. In Cusco I went to the Intiraymi fascinating celebration I love to walk through its streets and see the daily life of the locals their outdoor markets. In the morning eat a tasty small round bread but I do not know what they call it I would like to go back to do it for free, I have always been a tour that takes you quickly to the places and you have to stop from time to time to catch air from above. and the best there is is tea. Hello Maria,
The truth is that the price of flights is quite high, but counting the month in which we are, it is normal that they are "through the clouds." In Peru you must count about 100 euros per person and day or so, but this is counting international flight, mid-range hotels, transportation, tickets ... etc.
With 15 days gives you time to make a fairly complete tour, you should do without the Amazon area for example and in Cuzco shorten a day, if you take our itinerary as a base.

      Hello Miriam!!
We chose to take a taxi from Ollantaytambo to Cuzco, passing through Maras, Moray and Chinchero and we understand that it was the best option if we did not want to take an excursion as you say.
So we could choose the times we stayed in each place and enjoy without feeling "like sardines" on a tour.
In Ollantaytambo you will not have problems to find a taxi that does this service, yes, haggle 🙂 You can find many in the area of the train station and also ask at the hotel where you stay, because sometimes they have agreements and it comes out better than price.
To us they started with a price of 180 soles and in the end we ended up lowering it to 140 soles, for about 7 hours of travel plus visits.

      Hi Inma,
Normally we take the accommodation booked from here. More than anything to save time since we go with the days counted and if we have to be touring the cities or places in search of accommodation, we would lose too much time that we prefer to devote to visiting.
If sometimes we would have stayed more days or less somewhere, but as a rule we read a lot about the sites and we already know well how much time we will need.
The theme of the entrance of Machu Picchu is that we recommend you book it from here if you go in high season, so as not to risk running out of space.
Taking it out combined or not with Huayna depends on whether you want to go up or not. We booked it, it was about 9 euros more and in the end we did not climb because there was a lot of fog and rain and we recommend that we better not climb.
If in doubt, for the price, book it and once there you can decide 😉

Thank you very much for those words.
For Iquitos we did not have to get vaccinated since "we were up to date" with Hepatits A and B, typhus, cholera ... etc, but we were recommended to take Malarone for malaria.
Although we also have to say, when we arrived at the Muyuna Lodge, we were told that there was no malaria there 🙂
It is best to go to the Vaccination Center and make sure. Regards!!

            Thanksssssss !!!!

            Good luck!

          Hi Bene,
The total budget, including the Amazon area, which is quite expensive, being a more expensive flight and the accommodation package there is about 80-90 euros per day (counting international flight, internal flights, accommodation, meals, Amazon pack, tickets ... etc)

Do you know in Peru the "other Machu Pichu? I mean Choquequirao and it is an ideal area for trekking. They are organizing it for this autumn

      Hello locaporviajar!
We did not know him until we arrived in Cusco and there they told us that this place existed. We saw photos and understood that they told us that it is even "better than Macchu", but we had to let it go for lack of days since they told us that it takes about 3-4 days of trekking to get there.
Of course, we are left with the name and the images we saw to go when we return to Peru!

    Hi Alexandra!!
The truth is that we have complicated a little the publication of this newspaper for labor issues and for now being dedicating the time we have to the new blog that we will present shortly, but we are working on it and we hope to start publishing it shortly.
Thank you very much for writing to us. That makes us want if we can start with the travel diary 😉
    Regards!!

    Hi!!!

Awesome trip! I am organizing a route very similar to yours for September. I see that you have used the night bus a lot to take advantage of the time, did you find it a reliable and safe means of transport? Did you buy the tickets there directly or is there a way to buy them in advance?

    Thanksss

    Hi Diego!!
We have booked the Colca Lodge Spa, just outside Chivay. They have spectacular pools or at least that we have seen and they have told us 😉
While we are traveling we will upload photos and comments on social networks and on the way back we will start with the travel diary.
Julio ... you have less left! 😉
    Regards!!

      Hi Vane and Roger!

I wanted to write you for a long time to thank you for the work of your blog and tell you that we were following you on our trip through India. We felt very identified and guided by your advice, so we didn't want to stop putting it on and tell you that we are still watching your adventures around here.

This year we casually go to Peru, and we saw that you went in April. Obviously you have not yet had time to publish your blog, but I wanted to ask you specifically: your hotels in Colca Canyon (if you finally recommend Colca Lodge or being directly in Chivay), in Puno, and in Sacred Valley (we recommend Ollataytambo Hostel at train side).

Thank you very much in advance and keep it up!

        Hi Eduardo!
First of all, thank you very much for writing to us and for dedicating these words to us that you can't imagine the high they give us
We are still with the entries from Peru and you can not imagine the desire we have to continue publishing, but between one thing and another, the days are coming.
The Colca Lodge, 100% recommended We enjoy it very much and you can not miss the thermal baths, which are incredible and more at night. This is a great addition to the facilities they have and to the restaurant, which has a very good quality.
The issue of location is, at least in our case, something that we did not take into account, since Chivay went the next day on the excursion to Colca (it does not have too much and although nice, it will not take you long to visit it) and really When you arrive at the hotel in the afternoon from Arequipa, we already take it relaxing on the premises.
In Ollantaytambo we stayed somewhat away from the train station, in Tikawasi Valley, but it is a small town, where everything is at hand, so no problem.
This accommodation is not bad either and they treated us very well in everything we need.
In Puno we stay at Qelqatani Hotel, quite close to the pier where the boats leave for Uros, Taquile ... etc and very central, just 2 minutes walk from the main street. We also recommend 100%.
We keep in touch for everything you need!
        Regards!

    Hello!

I am organizing a trip very similar to yours in July, so I look forward to your trip chronicles!

I wanted to ask you about the night you spend in the Colca: in which town do you spend it? What is the accommodation with hot springs that you comment?

    Thank you!
